Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami are keen to sign River Plate midfielder Agustín Palavecino, according to a report in the Argentinian media.
No concrete bid from Inter Miami so far
The sports newspaper Olé says Miami have sounded River out about a deal for Palavecino, but are yet to table a formal offer for the 27-year-old.
Although the Platense youth product has a $20m release clause at River, Olé adds that the Buenos Aires club would be willing to sell for around $3.5m – the amount they paid Colombian side Deportivo Cali to sign the player in 2021.
Having struggled to earn a place in the River team under Martín Demichelis, Palavecino has been heavily tipped for a move away from the Estadio Monumental, and has attracted interest from a number of clubs in Argentina and in Europe.
Miami boss Martino keen to strengthen midfield
Palavecino isn’t the only Argentinian midfielder that Inter Miami have been keeping tabs on, however.
As this newspaper has previously reported, the Herons have had a bid turned down for Boca Junior’s Cristian Medina, as head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino looks to add steel to the engine room alongside veteran Spanish anchorman Sergio Busquets.
Ahead of the 2024 MLS season, Miami have so far brought in striker Luis Suárez and midfielder Julian Gressel on free transfers, and have signed defenders Tyler Hall and Israel Boatwright from their reserve squad.
