Broncos’ stampede to be stopped by Rivers

Broncos’ stampede to be stopped by Rivers

Denver have been red-hot since their opening day defeat but could be in for a shock against the Chargers…

Peyton Manning re-affirmed his status as one of the NFL’s greatest ever quarterbacks as he passed Brett Favre’s touchdown record last week but come Thursday Night Football, he’ll be in for a shock. With the Chargers QB Philip Rivers playing at an MVP level so far, expect this shootout to go San Diego’s way just like it did in a midweek game back in 2013 with superiority in the AFC West at stake.

Before this weekend’s loss to Kansas City, the Chargers were on a 5-game winning streak that began with a hugely impressive win against the reigning Super Bowl champions the Seattle Seahawks. They are experts at reducing the time the opposing QB is on the field, controlling time of possession and limiting the opposition’s chances at scoring, suffocating them into rash decisions. They are also one of the best teams on third down both on offence and defence, so 14/5 represents great value for Mike McCoy’s team to stroll into Mile High and steal the win again from under the Bronco’s noses.

You don’t need much more motivation than playing your closest divisional rivals in an NFL game but for Eddie Royal, he’s also playing the team that gave him away a few years ago. He’ll be more motivated than anyone on that field and leads the team’s wide receivers in touchdowns with 5, so take him to score the first TD of the game. Many might feel someone like Antonio Gates would be the ideal target but Royal has found himself in several one-on-one positions this season and has been he’s been superb at beating his opponent.

Reigning league MVP Peyton Manning has been in impeccable form as of late, throwing multiple touchdowns in every game but with less opportunities being afforded by the Charger’s control of possession, he’ll have to work extra hard for every point.

The Broncos’ offence is a scoring machine but the biggest factor will be whether they will get the time to work and really rack up a big score. The Chargers are built to keep the ball out of Manning’s hands for as long as possible so take the Total Match Points to be -50.5 at Evens.
